Sydney Guitar Collective - On Tour (Adamstown Uniting Church)

Sydney Guitar Collective - On Tour is a concert series celebrating the expressive possibilities of the classical guitar ensemble through music by Australian composers and the artists who have inspired them. We warmly invite you to experience the richness, colour and lyricism of the guitar in an intimate chamber setting.

Established in early 2023, the Sydney Guitar Collective was created as a space for emerging professional musicians to continue their passion for chamber music beyond their university studies. Since then, the ensemble has developed a growing performance profile through self-presented concerts and appearances in established Sydney concert series. The Collective now comprises five musicians who are passionate about sharing the classical guitar with new audiences and championing its place on the concert stage.

This program highlights Australian guitar music and the close creative relationships the ensemble has formed with composers. It includes Elena Kats-Chernin’s Dance of the Paper Umbrellas and Richard Charlton’s Port Jackson Suite, written for the Collective. The ensemble has also collaborated with UK composer Vincent Lindsey-Clarke and commissioned new works from emerging Australian composers at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.

Join us for an afternoon or evening of vivid, lyrical and engaging music, and discover the remarkable sound world of the classical guitar ensemble.

Sydney Guitar Collective - On Tour (House Concert - Canberra)

The Sydney Guitar Collective (SGC) was established in early 2023 through the generous sponsorship of Simon Powis, founder of Classical Guitar Corner. The
sponsorship provided a platform for emerging professional musicians to continue pursuing their passion for chamber ensemble performance beyond their
university studies.

Since its formation, SGC has steadily expanded its performance profile and now seeks to act as an ambassador for both the classical guitar and guitar ensemble.
Looking ahead, the ensemble aims to develop educational initiatives that introduce classical guitar to regional communities and groups with limited access
to music education.

SGC is led by Musical Director Dr Janet Agostino and features Manuel Diewald, Tobias Dracoulis, Jonathan Moran, Reede Palmer and Alexander Frendo, a group
of Sydney based classical guitarists active as performers and educators.

Limited seating for 50 guests in a lovely home with a performance space and comfortable seating. The performance will begin at 6pm and will be followed by dinner and drinks (provided) and a chance to mingle.

Hosts Bill and Libby want to offer opportunities for Canberra audiences to share their passion for the classical guitar, its varied and interesting repertoire and for the very high level of talent present in the region.

Phoenix Central Park Concert Series

The Sydney Guitar Collective is an initiative of Dr Janet Agostino (President of the Classical Guitar Society Sydney) and Dr Simon Powis (Founder of Classical Guitar Corner). Dr Janet Agostino serves as the Collective’s Musical Director.

Established in early 2023, the Collective provided a platform for young, motivated musicians to showcase their talents through guitar ensemble performances. Since then, the group has developed a diverse repertoire, with a strong focus on Australian works, and is committed to expanding this repertoire through commissioning new music from colleagues, associates, and both established and emerging Australian composers.

The Collective has been fortunate to collaborate with acclaimed composers such as Elena Kats-Chernin, Richard Charlton, and Vincent Lindsey-Clarke. In addition, the ensemble has commissioned works from three young Australian composers from the Sydney Conservatorium, which were premiered in concert in 2023 and recorded in 2025.

Performance highlights include invitations to appear at the Glebe Music Festival, the Phoenix Central Park Concert Series, and Richard Charlton’s tribute concert.

The Collective members are: Tobias Dracoulis, Manuel Diewald, Jonathan Moran, Reede Palmer, and Alexander Frendo, with former member Josh McLellan rejoining for this special concert.

The Sydney Guitar Collective gratefully acknowledges the generous support and sponsorship of Dr Simon Powis of Classical Guitar Corner.
